Save the Earth!

DO THIS:

So saving the earth, I think everyone should invest in a hybrid. I have one and it's wonderful. But if you're not affected by the whole idea of saving the planet, you should get one because it saves you money and gas prices are INSANE. Especially in Chicago. I'm really curious to see if smart cars are better than hybrids. If they are then I strongly support clown cars. I'm not a fan of the train, but I think its a really good way to reduce CO2 emissions. But I hate the train so instead, I car pool. My mom is kind of a freak about plugging things in and then leaving the cords plugged into the wall after you're done charging etc... so I guess I've become accustomed to making sure I don't "ghost charge". Even if you unplug a phone the cord is still charging. They say if you make sure you unplug everything you're using significantly less energy, plus you're saving money. I like recycled bags, the mesh kind that you get at grocery stores. They're great, my family saves all of them. If you're serious about recyling then you should be really aware of the things that can be recycled. A lot of people don't know this but a lot of what is recycled can't be. Instead of putting them in your blue bins, you should bring your items to a recycling plant, that way you know all of your items are actually going towards being recycled. I should do the whole "preserve water thing" I really should...but I like showers too much. So I make up for it in other ways.

Album/Track Review

So Album/Track Review:

Right, so I was going to review Adele’s new album.. but I think there might be something wrong with reviewing and album that technically isn’t out yet. So I move on to plan B, letting my itunes choose what album I’ll review. The lucky winner: Arctic Monkeys “Favorite Worst Nightmare”. Im actually really pleased my itunes decided to pick this... mainly because I haven’t listened to them in awhile and its like I’m rediscovering them.

The Arctic Monkeys have been around for a little bit, but I’m positive not a lot of people have really heard of them. They’re an alternative rock group straight out of Sheffield England; they’ve got the accents to prove it. They kind of remind me of a modern day Clash, it could just be the heavy accents though. No, thats exactly what it is. Their music isn’t really THAT similar.

“Favorite Worst Nightmare” is the bands second album and a pretty damn good one. Its got a gritty rock sound that meshes well with the exciting pace of songs. So not really Black Keys Gritty. You can’t really listen to this album idly. “Balaclava” and “Brainstorm” are really good examples of the pace of the album. Even though I do really like the album, now that I’m listening to it again it makes me a little anxious. It lacks one or a couple good songs that slow it down a bit and make me appreciate all the other fast paced and thrilling songs. I really enjoy the last song on the album titled “505” though. The majority of the song has calm and almost depressing demeanor to it. With lyrics like “But I crumble completely when you cry, It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye” and “ A knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark, Frightened by the bite though its no harsher than the bark” It's sort of a sad romanic song dealing with the troubles musicians can come into contact with. But sticking to the nature of the album it ends the song in a loud and upbeat manner. YAY 2 THUMBS UP!

Good Food Review

Food is a spactacular thing. YUM. Some of the best Itailian food I’ve had has come from a tiny restrauant in Oak Park called La Bella. So of course, this is the place I chose to review. The restaraunt probably has about 10 tables in the entire building, and I’m certain that they have very little chefs on staff. But that doesnt matter, the food does. I have a theory that if you go to a restuarant and you physically have to take the bread away from the table so you have room for the main course, the restrerant is probably a good one. (OH Their bread is amazing)

One of my favorite dishes..ever.. is Chicken Marsala. I haven’t come across an Italian restruant that serves this dish better. According to my father, “I tend to eat like a bird”. However, the one thing he seems to notice everytime we go there is how empty my plate is after we eat. I unfortunately, never come home with leftovers. Not only do they have some the most delicous Italian dishes, but their desserts... OH MY GOD. I have a weakness for cannolis, their cannolis are serious Italian bakery good. If youre one who prefers tiramisu, you are in luck. To be honest my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The only problem is that if you are starving and need food fast, you might not want to endure the whole waiting for food thing. Good food takes time.

King Still King?

Well it might be kind of pointless to publish a post about this; seeing how Martain Luther King day has passed, but ill do it anyway. The topic of this blog poses a good question though. Last monday I dont think I gave any deep thought about the fact that it was MLK day. Which I regret that it has come to that. It was just another day off for me. When you think about Martain Luther King and what he did, he’s really just irreplaceable in history. He made such a large impact on a part of history that can never be altered in the same way again. In that respect, he will always be the King. For what it means to everyone else however, is a different story. His presence in modern day society has diminished. We are rewarded with a day of in his behalf, but really how many people actually recognize why its a day off? How many people take the time to honor him on the day off? I, for one, am guilty of doing this. Thinking about it now, I wish I could say I did more than watch trash tv and finish homework. But thats what I did. Hopefully next year, I’ll take the mentality of treating this day as just another day off and turn it into a more productive day. He isnt really the king of anything now that has a large impact on the average american citizen today.

I'm a Shoe

Well, I'm not a shoe..
but If i were a shoe.. I would have to be a cross between an Ugg and a flip flop. not necessarily a furry flip flop just the characteristics between both types of shoe. I really am not big on shoes.. I would rather wear an Ugg over a stylish boot. Don’t get me wrong...Uggs are ugly. Im pretty sure that’s what its short for, but I like being comfortable and warm. Plain and Simple, They aren’t complicated; there are no ties, snaps, or zippers etc.. You just slip them on go. I’m a cold weather person, an Ugg is a cold weather boot. I like to think its one of the most “down to earth” shoes. My personality isn’t really one thats flashy and over the top. An Ugg definitely isn’t flashy or over the top. I think a flip flop is also a good representation of that same personality. In the summer all I wear are flip flops. They are one of those shoes that are always in your closet, you always have a pair no matter what. Basically, they are dependable. I don’t have to worry about ruining them because they aren’t the most expensive or sophisticated. I don’t know, shoes just aren’t really a big deal to me. The two I picked I think show that mentality, because they obviously aren’t the most amazing shoes someone could wear.

Ode to Scrooge

Christmas oh christmas
How I once loved thee
You're were full of giving and glee
But then one year the light socket rusted
The cord sparked and the tree combusted

My stocking was hung by the chimmey with care
But really there was no point in it being there
The amont of coal that was put in my stocking
Was disappointing and some what shocking

I was so angry I shot it down the plumbing
To be honest I might have deserved what was coming
The pipes burst and flooded the house
The water killed my pet mouse

Finally to top off a horrible day
The last candy cane fell on the floor
With no time left to run to the store
Mmmmm lint incrusted mint

But what's most disappointing of all
Was the grinch who stole christmas dvd froze when his heart was still two sizes too small.
Bah hum bug!

Sports in my life

Sports in my life....
Well I would have to say that sports have been prevalent my entire life. More so when I was younger than now, but never the less still apparent. Growing up with twenty plus cousins, who are mostly all boys played a huge part in the influence of sports. Its pretty much the reason why I enjoy them. They all live in the suburbs so they all pretty much played soccer, when I was little I would play with them and I eventually was sucked into joining a team, but I'm not a big fan of running so I quit in second grade. Not only did I play soccer, but I played baseball when I was younger as well. (I was the cutest little right fielder ever) I stopped playing that a little after I stopped soccer. I can't remember why, but I think I was really into ballet or tap lessons or something at that time.
I became interested in other things for awhile such as piano lessons. When I was older I played volleyball for a little, but that didn't last because I became focused on other activities such as art. I realize I really enjoy playing sports, but recreationally. Sports are a big part of my life because they are a bonding tool with my family. I'm really close with my dad because I watch and attend sporting events with him. Its how I've always spent time with him. Whenever my cousins and I get together there is always something dealing with sports, whether its playing them or watching football games together. Sports are still a big part in my life. Its always going to be a common ground with my family and I. The end.
